IP Peg Eclipse

Here I post some interesting photometric observations
(light curves and images) about variable stars and supernovae. Unless otherwise
noted, this is unfiltered CCD photometry (sometimes I've assumed to work
in the R band, using R magnitudes for the reference stars from USNO A1.0).
To plot light curves, IDL has been used. Detector: CCD SBIG ST-7. Starting
from the 1999 superoutburst of QY Per, the observations are often conducted
also by Alessia Cassetti.
Qui si trovano alcune interessanti osservazioni
fotometriche di stelle variabili e supernovae (curve di luce ed immagini).
Salvo avviso contrario, si tratta di fotometria CCD senza filtri (talvolta
ho assunto di essere nella banda R, utilizzando per le stelle di riferimento
magnitudini R tratte dall'USNO A1.0). Per ottenere le curve di luce, si
e' utilizzato IDL. Rivelatore: CCD SBIG ST-7. A partire dal superoutburst
del 1999 di QY Per, le osservazioni sono spesso condotte anche da Alessia
Cassetti.

(faint July 1998 outburst)
On july the 17th, 1998, I observed an
IP Peg eclipse (light curve). It was about 2.5
mag deep.
Il 17 luglio 1998 ho osservato un'eclissi
di IP Pegasi (curva di luce). Si e' avuta una profondita'
di circa 2.5 mag.

Here are observations
of this star (July the 16, 1998). It is clearly visible a superhump.
Qui si trovano osservazioni
di questa variabile (16 luglio 1998). E' ben visibile un superhump.

Aql
On July the 18th, 1998, I observed an
eclipse of this variable (light curve). It was
about 1.5 mag deep.
Il 18 luglio 1998 ho osservato un'eclissi
di questa stella (curva di luce). Osservata
una profondita' di circa 1.5 mag.
On July the 24th, 1998 I took another
run, three hours long. The light curve is very
interesting: it shows a well defined eclipse (1.5 mag deep) and evident
fluctuations in the star brightness.
Il 24 luglio 1998 ho ottenuto un'altra
run, di tre ore. La curva di luce e' molto interessante:
mostra un'eclissi ben definita (profonda 1.5 mag.) e chiare fluttuazioni
di luminosita' della stella.
On July the 26th, 1998 I took another
run, again three hours long. The light curve
is still very interesting: the eclipse (1.5 mag deep) occurred at the end
of the run.
Il 26 luglio 1998 ho ottenuto un'altra
run, ancora di tre ore. La curva di luce mostra
un'eclissi verso la fine (profonda 1.5 mag.) e fluttuazioni di luminosita'
della stella.

Aqr
On Aug. the 11th, 1998 I took a three
hours long run. The light curve is very interesting:
the eclipse (1.4 mag deep) occurred at the middle of the run.
L'11 agosto 1998 ho ottenuto una run di
tre ore. La curva di luce mostra un'eclissi nel
,mezzo (profonda 1.4 mag.) e fluttuazioni di luminosita'.

Her (Extremely rare August 1998 outburst)
On Aug. the 31th, 1998 I took a run during
the outburst phase. The light curve shows evident
fluctuations.
Il 31 agosto1998 ho ottenuto una run di
circa due ore. La curva di luce mostra evidenti
fluttuazioni di luminosita'.
U Gem (April 1999 outburst)
On April the 4th, 1999 I have taken an
about four hours long run of this variable, obtaining this light
curve. Eclipses start to re-appear after the outburst.
Il 4 aprile 1999 ho ottenuto una run di
quattro ore. La curva di luce mostra la presenza
di un eclissi, che cominciano a ripresentarsi dopo l'outburst.

On June the 26th, 1999 I took an about
3.2 hours long run, obtaining the following light
curve, which shows evident fluctuations.
Il 26 giugno 1999 ho ottenuto una run
di 3.2 ore, ottenendo questa curva di luce,
che mostra evidenti fluttuazioni di luminosita'.
On June the 30th, 1999 I took another
run, about 4.6 hours long, getting the following light
curve, which shows, again, evident fluctuations.
Il 30 giugno 1999 ho ottenuto un'altra
run, lunga 4.6 ore, ottenendo questa curva di luce,
che mostra, ancora, evidenti fluttuazioni di luminosita'.
On July the 2nd, 1999 another run has
been take. The light curve is still very interesting.
Il 2 luglio 1999 si e' tenuta un'ulteriore
sessione osservatica. La curva di luce e' ancora
molto interessante.
On July the 23rd, 1999 the star has been
reobserved, for only 1.5 hours (because of clouds). Nice light
curve.
Il 23 luglio 1999 la stella e' stata riosservata
per sole 1.5 ore, a causa di un sistema nuvoloso. Bella curva
di luce.

Cas (July1999 bright outburst)
On July the 27th, 1999 I have taken an
about 4.2 hours long run of this variable, obtaining this light
curve. It is very nice! two eclipses are visible, with a depth of 1.3
mag. The star seems to fade during the run. No superhumps visible.
Il 27 luglio 1999 ho ottenuto una run
di 4.2 ore, ottenendo questa curva di luce. Essa
e' assai interessante: sono ben visibile due eclissi, profonde 1.3 mag.
La stella sembra diminuire lentamente il suo splendore nel corso delle
osservazioni. Non sono visibili superhump.
QY Per
(Very rare Dec.1999 superoutburst)
On Dec the 29th, 1999 I have taken an
about.3.5 hours long run of this variable, discovered
to be in outburst, quite a rare event for this star. The photometric run
clearly shows superhumps, revealing the real nature of this cataclysmic
object: a SU UMa CV, at the moment is superoutburst, the first one observed
since its discovery (1966). All the data are now being processed at Kyoto
University (Japan) and very impressing, preliminar results have been obtained.
The following night a 5 hours run have been got.
It it easy to see that the amplitude of superhumps is larger in this second
dataset (0.4 mags vs 0.2 mags): this means that the variable has been discovered
at the very early stage of its superoutburst. Between 1 and 2 Jan. 2000,
a
six-hours run (M&C) has been got. The dataset is in agreement with
the previous results. Please see this interesting

Il 29 dic. 1999 ho ottenuto una run
fotometrica lunga circa 3.5 ore su questa stella, scoperta in un raro
evento di outburst. L'analisi dei dati ha evidenziato la chiara presenza
di superhump, che hanno rivelato la vera natura di questa cataclismica:
una variabile del tipo SU UMa, al momento in superoutburst, il primo osservato
dalla sua scoperta. Tutti i dati sono ora analizzati presso l'Universita'
di Kyoto (Giappone) e i risultati preliminari sono assai interessanti.
La notte successiva l'oggetto e' stato seguito per
5 ore e stavolta i superhump sono ben piu' evidenti (0.4 mag contro
0.2): cio' significa che la stella e' stata osservata giusto nella fase
iniziale del processo di superoutburst. Tra l'1 e il 2 gennaio 2000, un'altra
run di sei ore (M&C) ha confermato i risulati finora ottenuti.

(First-ever
detected Feb.2000 superoutburst)
On Feb. the 05th, 2000 we (M&C) have
taken an about.3.3 hours long run of this variable,
discovered to be in outburst by P. Schmeer, the first one ever detected
for this star. Our photometric run clearly shows superhumps, revealing
the real nature of this cataclysmic object: a SU UMa CV, at the moment
is superoutburst. We have been the first to report the class of this
star. An internation campaign has been conducted between the Center
for Backyard Astrophysics (NY, USA) and the team working at the Ouda
station (Kyoto University, Japan). Please see this interesting
