Web Math Collaboration: sharing math on the Internet (WMC)

WMC is a federation of mathematical Web sites with similargoals and principles. The purpose of WMC is to promote mathematics, via the Web, on the scope ofknowledge, instruction, and research, including, for example, toprovide freely accessible open spaces for people tocollaborate on and discuss mathematical subjects, help those who have difficulties in mathematics, provide mathematical resources to the public. The WMC philosophy rests on gratuitousness, ergonomics, andcooperation:Exemption from payment: Information and activities supported byWMC are free of charge for private and noncommercial use.Ergonomics: The functionalities available to WMC users are, asfar as possible, natural, simple, and effective so as to remain accessibleand useful to the greatest number.Cooperation: WMC members maintain privileged relations betweenthemselves. These relations make it possible in particular for each memberto improve the quality of the services that it provides within theframework of WMC while profiting from, experimenting with, and progressing functions or software of theother members. These privileged relations imply the obligation of eachmember to provide an easily accessible page containing this text and clearlinks toward the other WMC members and toward the WMC council. Each WMC member is represented within WMC by one of its administrators. Thewhole of these representatives is the WMC council, which takes careof the favorable operation of WMC. Moreover, the WMC council is responsiblefor the admission of new members: a site becomes a member of WMC if itrequests admission from the administrators and each member of the councilconsent.WMC was founded in May 2001 by David J. Manura and Pierre B. A. Lecomte. Todate, its members are Math2.org (http://www.math2.org) and M@TH enLigne (http://www.forum.math.ulg.ac.be), andits council consists of David J. Manura and Pierre B. A. Lecomte.[Français | English]WMC
