The Prince George’s County Teaching Fellows is looking for talented, motivated career-changers and recent college graduates dedicated to joining us in changing the quality of education provided to the students of Prince George’s County Public Schools. This is an opportunity for outstanding individuals from all academic backgrounds to become part of an initiative that will allow them to train in the summer, become teachers in the fall, and earn a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate. We are currently accepting applications for our 2009 program, and interviews are limited. For more information about the program and to apply online, please visit http://www.pgcteachingfellows.org or call 301-780-2703. "Cross-Cultural Analysis of Students with Exceptional Talent in Mathematical Problem Solving," published in the November Notices of the American Mathematical Society shows that the percentage of girls on top International Mathematics Olympiad teams varies considerably by country. Many top-ranked countries send more girls to the International Olympiads than does the United States. Also, a large percentage of the faculty members recently hired by top-ranked mathematics departments were born outside the US. These and other findings suggest that in the United States mathematical talented youths, particularly girls, are not identified and nurtured. The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is pleased to announce that Fan Chung Graham will deliver the Noether Lecture at the 2009 Joint Mathematics Meetings. Chung, a professor of mathematics at University of California at San Diego, was selected for this honor because of her fundamental contributions to graph theory and combinatorics.
