The UV and/orvisible spectrophotometer is a widely used analytical tool based on asolution’s ability to absorb light. This classic instrument is used for bothqualitative and quantitative determinations from molecular identification andassays to colorimetric determination of specific ions. Procedures for usingspectrophotometers have been developed in response to inspections by bothquality assurance departments and by regulatory bodies. Proof of instrument validationmust be available to regulatory bodies upon request; therefore laboratoriesneed to make sure that the instrument is within specification. The In-spec® photometric standards were developed by Advanced Polymer Systems (APS), a division of AP Pharma, as a spin-off of their already popular AMCO Clear line of turbidity standards.
