Standards, Diffuse Coatings and Materials, Instrumentation
Since 1999, Avian Technologies has been active in the development of standards for the
pharmaceutical, agricultural, and optical industries. We supply a wide range of standards,
all traceable to NIST and NRC,
for transmittance and reflectance, from the UV to the mid-IR.
We are also involved in an active program for development of a new line of color standards for
the color and appearance market.
Our diffuse reflectance materials and coatings are used widely throughout the world in a wide
variety of industries. We are one of the few (if not the only) concern doing active research
in the development of custom diffuse reflectance coatings, where our customer base includes
Boeing,
General Dynamics, and
Australian Aerospace.
With our expertise in coatings and materials, it is a logical step to our involvement in
instrumentation for measurement of light. Our integrating sphere lines are used for LED flux
measurements, in spectroscopy, and in spectroradiometry. With our sister company,
AvianGroupusa, we have provided metrological
instrumentation used in a number of laboratories at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

New Calibration Services Available
We are pleased to announce the availability of bidirectional (0/45) spectral radiance factor measurements. Spectral data are measured from 380 – 720, sampled every 10 nm. The data are traceable to NIST/NRC, and are provided with full colorimetric data as well. Our instrumentation is ideally suited for quality control studies and stability studies. In addition, we can provide similar services with the 8/t specular included and 8/d specular excluded geometries.
Goniospectrophotometric data (BRDF - bidirectional reflectance distribution function) are also available at
incidence/collection angles, both ranging from +/- 70°. Spectrally, we report 390 - 730nm, sampled every 10nm. These data are ideal
for characterization of gonioapparent paints, cosmetics, pigments, and other materials.
