Our Solar System - True To Scale earth

Solar System

T r u e   T o   S c a l e Why is this something special? Saturne deutsch Musik aus    Musik ein    Well, you can draw the spaces between the tracks of the planets true to scale and you can draw the sizes of the planets relative to the sun true to scale - but just try both on one sheet of paper!
If you would use a normal sheet of paper and draw at one side the sun and at the other side the most outward planet Pluto true to scale in size and distance the planet would have a diameter of 0.1 thousandth of a millimeter. The earth wouldn't be much bigger, about 0.6 thousandth of a millimeter. You would see it only with a microscope but you couldn't find it on the paper. If you reversed would draw the earth 1 millimeter in diameter you would need for the whole solar system a sheet of paper of 500 meters length! Maybe somebody could check this? At a walk through a "way of planets" where the dimensions were explained I got the idea to show this in a web browser, because with the help of the scrollbars the "sheet of paper" can be lengthened unlimited. Because there is much empty space between the planets - and I mean really m u c h - they are difficult to find. Mercury, Mars and Pluto are only one pixel in diameter, earth and Venus just 2 pixel. To find them easier you can see the distances in the following table:   Distance of Orbit from the Sun (kilometers) Diameter (kilometers)    Sun   1 392 700  Infos  Mercury 57 900 000  4 840  Infos  Venus 108 000 000  12 200  Infos  Earth 150 000 000  12 757  Infos  Mars 228 000 000  6 787  Infos  Jupiter 778 000 000  142 870  Infos  Saturn 1 427 000 000  120 670  Infos  Uranus  2 870 000 000  51 000  Infos  Neptune  4 496 000 000  49 200  Infos  Pluto 5 946 000 000  2 290  Infos And now let's start:  Show Solar System True To Scale!  (It is shown in a second window and with the task bar you can change the windows) Did you enjoy this little website? There you can walk through our solar system on the scale of 1 : 4 000 000 000. The sun is a sphere with a diameter of 350 millimeters, and the most outward planet Pluto is located in a distance of 1.5 km (about 1 mile). From this point you could not walk to the next fixed star Proxima Centauri, on the same scale it might be placed in Vancouver/Canada! The world's largest model of the solar system is located near Peoria, Illinois, USA. The sun is painted on the wall of Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences and Pluto is located in Kewanee, Illinois.
