Maintenance and Reliability Center

Who We Are and What We Do

The MRC is an industry-supported center within the College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee, drawing support from a diverse range of companies and industries. Initiated in 1996 with 12 original companies participating, the MRC continues to grow and now has over 30 member companies. The MRC bridges between industry and academia to provide education, research & development, and information exchange in the application of maintenance and reliability engineering tools and concepts.

Plant Visit

Our Mission

The Maintenance and Reliability Center (MRC) exists to advance maintenance and reliability education and practices within the academic and industrial communities. We create opportunities for member companies, students, faculty, and industry to achieve exceptional value through a comprehensive program of education, research, and information sharing.

Our Vision

The MRC is the trusted and premier source of people, knowledge, and research.

Students and faculty are sought after for their expertise in maintenance and reliability. Conferences and education are recognized as the highest quality source of maintenance and reliability best practices information. Implementation of research generates solutions that are effective at solving problems.

Our Core Values

Leadership

Providing a strategic direction and vision for the Maintenance and Reliability community and initiating the supporting activities.

Excellence

Delivering consistently high quality services in all we say and do.

Relationships

Creating the environment for growth and development between member companies, students, faculty, and industry with integrity and mutual respect.

Learning

Contrinuously developing, expanding, and sharing the body of knowledge.

Perspective

Bridging the understanding of issues facing industry and academia.

Innovation

Finding effective solutions to difficult problems.

Program Areas

Education

The MRC offers a wide spectrum of educational opportunities for undergraduate students, graduate students and working progessionals. At the undergraduate level, UT offers a University "Minor in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering", a College "Certificate in Maintenance & Reliability Engineering", and opportunities to gain experience through Maintenance and Reliability internships. Click Here for more information about these options. For graduate students and working professionals, we offer three different Graduate Certificates and two different Master's Degrees through off-campus distance learning, along with various seminars and short courses. One of our Certificate and MS programs is through our partnership with Monash University of Australia and another is through our UT College of Engineering. Click Here to learn more about each of these programs.

Research & Technology Assesment

Being part of a major Research University, the MRC is very well positioned to conduct research and technology assessment projects recommended by its industrial members and supported by its members and/or third party funding. Projects are conducted by faculty and students at the University of Tennessee, and with collaborating universities and national laboratories such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Information Sharing

The MRC sponsors regular best pratice sharing member meetings, an annual open-to-the-public conference and occastional short courses. We also publish a quarterly newsletter highlighting current developments in the field of maintenance and reliability along with news of the MRC's activities. Our annual conference, MARCON (Maintenance and Reliability Conference), serves as an annual forum for nationally and internationally recognized specialists to exchange information on new maintenance and reliability engineering methods and on practical applications of advanced techniques. This conference has something for all participants, from beginners to old pros.

Business Support and Alliances

In all we do, the MRC seeks to build bridges between industry and academia, through the support of businesses and the building of alliances among member companies, partnering institutions and the University. The MRC provides learning, meeting and networking opportunities, both formal and informal, with companies and with individual members. The MRC stands ready to serve you.
