The History of Chemical Engineering: Introduction

Introduction & Overview!

Welcome to our Historyof Chemical Engineering & Chemical Technology. Ourgoal is to bring you a history of chemical engineering that encompassesits conceptual origins in Great Britain, subsequent strugglefor survival in the United States, and concludes with a cornucopiaof contributions made in this Century. Alongthe way, many tables and figures help illustrate the growth andchange in the chemical industry, the chemical engineeringprofession, and its educational infrastructure. Somequestions we hope to examine include: What is chemicalengineering? How, and why,did chemical engineering develop? What obstaclesdid the profession face and overcome? What contributionshave chemical engineers made? Howhas the profession grown and changed over the last Century? Whilethe following documents cover a fair amount of ground, it is importantto keep in mind that this is only a brief tour of this topic whichleaves many important events untouched. If you find our short historyinteresting and informative we hope you will continue to explore thesubject, as there are many excellent sources available. In anycase, we hope to hear your reactions, comments, and suggestions.-Wayne Pafko Tableof Contents Welcome Whatis Chemical Engineering? "The end already... go back to the top."
