On 21 -
28 September 2008, the network members (where Laguna de Bay is a member
lake, & SCPW/CLEAR representing it) met at the 12th
International Living Lakes Conference at Lake Trasimeno in Italy to
discuss the cultural values of lakes and how these can contribute to
protect lakes.
National Conference on
Wetlands, Climate change Adaptation and Biodiversity Conservation
The Conference is going to be held on 12-14 January 2009 at Silliman
University in Dumaguete City. It aimed at setting the stage for
the development of a national policy on wetlands, and a national
strategy and action plan for the wise use of wetlands and wetlands
resources, incorporating concerns on biodiversity conservation and
climate change adaptation.

Harnessing
the youth for the conservation, the SCPW conducted the
Youth Ecological Camp for Lake Naujan on 24-26 October 2008. 33 high school
students from 4 lakeshore municipalities of Naujan, Pola, Socorro and
Victoria had participated in the 3-day eco-camp. It aimed to
make the participants more aware of their important role and stake in
the environmental protection of Lake Naujan's watershed, particularly on
lake conservation.

conducted Paghiro Kabataan para sa Kapalibutan - Lake Buhi
Youth Ecological Camp on 05-07 May 2008, in
partnership with the Center for Ecosystems and Protected Area
Management. The
participants of the 3-day eco-camp, who are leaders of Sangguniang Kabataan
of Buhi, were able to discuss the major environmental problems in their locality
and its effects on Lake Buhi, and propose solutions to these problems.

3rd Third CLEAR Youth Network Congress was held on July 26-27,
2008 at Camp Allen Training and Development Center, Sta. Cruz,
Laguna. Youth from the lakeshore municipalities of Tanay, Los Baños,
Lumban and Pangil, and cities of Muntinlupa and San Pablo attended the
event
providing a venue for the youth to exchange ideas,
information, practices and activities on lake conservation, and to build
their capacity to implement lake conservation activities efficiently
and effectively.

participated in the Save Laguna de Bay Bike Caravan on 26 - 27 April 2008,
organized by the Laguna Lake Development Authority. CLEAR
awarded cash prize to the youngest cyclist (male and female) who
finished the race.
