Many of the species are represented by a varietyof specimens including both sexes and different ages from foetal throughjuvenile and adult to very aged individuals. The specimens show variousdegrees of health with some interestingpathological lesions.  Click here for more info on Zooarchspecimens. The Reference collection is used by researchers for the identificationof faunal remains found during Archaeological excavations.  The collectionalso represents an excellent, well-rounded resource for teaching and isused by introductory and more advanced courses.  Courses with a Zooarchaeologycomponent can hold labs and lectures in the Zooarchaeology Collection Laboratory. The collection has an active volunteer program. We are indebted to the enthusiastic students that support and assist inthe Zooarchaeology Collection. The collection is actively growing and there are processingfacilities in the Department for preparing skeletal material from dissectionto final preparation.  Trade with other institutions for suitablespecimens to expand the collection is encouraged.  Contact the Technologistby email for a list of trade items. The collection is staffed by two curatorial positions: the Curator whois a faculty member and professor in the department and the ArchaeologyTechnologist who acts as a curatorial assistant and takes care of the dayto day functioning of the collections.  Contact:Shirley HarphamArchaeology Technologist         Tory B-9 (AnthropologySubbasement)phone: (780) 492-7138E-mail:Shirley.Harpham@ualberta.caMailingAddressTo Archaeology HomepageTo Archaeology HomepageTo Anthropology HomepageToAnthropology Homepage
