The Zooarchaeology Reference Collection consists of over 700 animal skeletonsof Alberta and arctic vertebrate species, domesticates, and a small numberof mollusc specimens. Many of the species are represented by a varietyof specimens including both sexes and different ages from foetal throughjuvenile and adult to very aged individuals. The specimens show variousdegrees of health with some interestingpathological lesions. The collectionalso represents an excellent, well-rounded resource for teaching and isused by introductory and more advanced courses. Courses with a Zooarchaeologycomponent can hold labs and lectures in the Zooarchaeology Collection Laboratory.The collection has an active volunteer program.We are indebted to the enthusiastic students that support and assist inthe Zooarchaeology Collection.The collection is actively growing and there are processingfacilities in the Department for preparing skeletal material from dissectionto final preparation.
