美容外科（びようげか，Cosmetic Surgery/Plastic Surgery）は、人体の機能上の欠損や変形の矯正よりも、専ら美意識に基づく人体の見た目の改善を目指す臨床医学の一つで、独立した標榜科目でもある。医療全体がQOL重視の流れにあり、日本経済の成熟と医療市場の拡大により、近年注目されている医療分野である。外科学の一分野。 他科との関係近年、形成外科の一分野である認識もあり（日本における歴史的背景も含まれる）、大学病院や総合病院において美容外科がある場合は形成外科内に併設されている場合が多い。しかし、歴史的には美容外科は大学病院などで扱われはじめたのは比較的最近のことであり、街の開業医たちによって技術が育まれてきた異色の側面があった。その経緯と、既に標榜科の整形外科や形成外科の定義付けに、美容外科的なものが含まれてなかった事もあり、美容外科は1978年（昭和53年）に標榜科目に認可された。（なお、美容外科に類似する名称として「美容皮膚科」や「美容内科」等の名称を診療所が独自に用いている例もあるが、これらの名称は標榜科目としては認可されていない。） 美容外科は呼称として整容外科、形成美容外科、美容整形外科とも言われる。これはまたこの分野の施術は、一般には整形手術、美容形成手術、美容整形手術などと言われることが多いが、これは法律的な根拠のない俗称であり、正しくは美容外科手術と呼ぶべきものである。なお「整形」という言葉から誤解を受けがちであるが、整形外科は美容外科とまったく異なる診療科である。これは形成外科が日本においては整形外科の診療班として最初に設立された経歴が関係すると思われる。 美容外科手術を受けた患者が術後の「駆け込み寺」として形成外科の窓口を相談の場として訪れるケースが多い。上述した如く形成外科とは身体外表の機能上の変形を取り扱う診療科目である。診療の大前提として術前のインフォームド・コンセントは、なされているはずであり、なによりも施術者が一番症状を把握しているのであるから、まずは主治医との相談、ないしは他院でも、美容外科医への相談を行うのが妥当である。 二つの美容外科学会の存在美容外科は歴史的には保険医療の枠から外れた分野とされて来たため、大学病院や基幹病院での診療が認められなかった。故に美容外科は永らく街の開業医によって行われてきた。保険外診療においては、美容外科の標榜科化が比較的新しい点、医療制度が専門医でなくても看板を掲げて治療が行える点もあり様々な医師によって美容的手術が施されてきた経緯がある。多くの問題を生み出してきたものの、反面、一定の実績とノウハウの蓄積もみた。近年は大学病院や基幹病院の主に形成外科でも美容外科に取り組みつつある。 2007年現在、日本には、その歴史的成り立ちや物の考え方の違いなどから「日本美容外科学会」という同名の団体が２つ存在している。一つは開業医が中心となって育んできた美容外科技術を提供する事を目的とする日本美容外科学会（JSAS：1966年日本美容整形外科学会として設立。1978年改称）もう一つは日本形成外科学会会員を主体とした、形成外科を派生由来とする日本美容外科学会（JSAPS：1977年日本整容形成外科研究会として設立）である。美容外科の看板を上げている医師はほぼいずれかの学会に所属しているのが現状である。両者の主義主張は異なり、それぞれ独自の認定医療施設制度（認可未認可含む）を設けるなど独立した路線を維持しているために、美容外科施術を考えている人にとって混乱の元となっている。バイオメカニクスバイオメカニクス（英語: biomechanics）とは、生物の構造や運動を力学的に探求する学問である。生体力学あるいは生物力学などと訳されることもある。 バイオメカニクスの扱う範囲は個体単位から細胞単位まで幅広い。たとえば、骨や靱帯、腱などに対して材料力学や構造力学的な解析を行ったり、鳥や昆虫などの飛行・魚類などの遊泳・あるいは血管中での血液の流れなどを流体力学的に研究したり、といったことが含まれる。 実用例としてはサメの肌を模擬した特殊な模様の入った競泳用水着などが挙げられる。今後は人工臓器の開発などへの応用が期待されている。 生物にヒントを得た機械などに関連する応用分野は、バイオニクス (bionics) あるいはバイオミメティクス (biomimetics) と呼ばれることもある。 整形生体力学最新情報
